A really great dessert for your low-sugar, low-sodium patients or
residents. The six flavors: Cinnamon Sweet Apple, Truly Sweet
Blueberry, Red’N Sweet Cherry, Peach, Pina Colada, and Strawberry
give you instant variety! Long term care patients tire of apples,
oranges and grapefruit, particularly in midwinter. Six flavors
means variety at your fingertips.
Instant - well, not quite, but very
easy. For that homemade look, add water and bake for 30
minutes. Rushed for time - try the directions for Fruit Toppings
or Pie Filling - you just add water, stir, let stand for five minutes
and serve.
Serving suggestions include: as a Fruit
Topping on pancakes or rolled up inside pancakes, as a spread for
toast, over a cheesecake, with waffles, yogurt, diet pudding or ice
milk, plus many other ways you will think of. Can also be baked
as a pie on crisp filling.
Nutritional highlights: all flavors except
Pina Colada contain 55 calories per ¼ cup portion. This
can be calculated as one fruit exchange. Pina Colada at 60
calories equals one fruit and ⅓ fat exchange. All six qualify for
a very low sodium rating at 10 mgs. The fruit content of each
flavor consists of fruit-flavored low moisture apples which
standardizes the caloric value.
Yield when baked in a 9" x 13" pan, cut
2½" x 2½" will be 24-¼ cup servings.
Instant preparation yield will also be approximately 24-¼ cup
each.
