We all know that a serving of delicious cake really puts the finishing touch to a school lunch menu, but during these days of cut-backs and economic pressure, it is usually the ‘extras’ that are cut. Yet, we all realize that these ‘extras’ or special treats keep the customers coming to your door, and without something special, interest and participation drops.
Thus, we decided to provide you with high quality Hi-Yield Cake Start’r. These basic mixes produce great cakes, but because you add common commodities, such as flour, non-fat dry milk, salad oil, margarine or butter, real economy is realized. Labor is saved also, since we provide as many as seventeen ingredients that you will not have to measure or mix separately.
We call them Hi-Yield since a #10 can of regular cake mix provides only one 18" x 26" sheet pan cake, whereas Cake Start’r gives you Four Times as Much - Four 18" x 26" sheet pans from each can. Extra care was also taken during formulation to insure that the finished product would be Extra Moist with excellent eating and keeping qualities.

Each can of Coffee Cake Start’r contains our delicious Coffee Cake Topping Mix (packed in a 20 oz. plastic bag) and our quick and easy Coffee Cake Start’r Base Mix. Just open the can and remove the bag of Topping Mix, then add the Start’r Base to flour and water, mix for 4 minutes and pour into 18” x 26” sheet pan.
Prior to topping batter with Coffee Cake Topping Mix, nuts or fruit pieces may be sprinkled on top, if desired. Each 18” x 26” sheet pan of this sweet and tender Coffee Cake will yield 48 bread equivalents in the School Breakfast
Program.
Coffee Cake Start’r can also be prepared as a Fruit and Streusel Coffee Cake by topping with pie filling or thickened fruit prior to baking in two 12” x 20” x 2” pans. Each serving will then provide a bread equivalent and 1/8 fruit.
